We are delighted to partner with master printer Roberto Aguilar for this exclusive two-day workshop that will cover everything from preparation of your digital files to producing finished platinum-palladium prints.

Day 1:

• Introduction to the platinum-palladium process: materials, chemistry, and workflow

• Creating and calibrating your own digital negatives using a step-by-step process

• Paper selection, coating techniques, and exposure fundamentals

Day 2:

• Printing your own images using your calibrated negatives

• Developing, clearing, and finishing prints to archival standards

• Troubleshooting and fine-tuning your process

• Leave with prints in hand and a fully personalised digital negative workflow

This hands-on workshop is ideal for photographers looking to explore or deepen their knowledge of the platinum-palladium process. With only 4 spaces available, you’ll receive focused, individual instruction in a fully equipped professional darkroom.

No prior platinum-palladium printing or darkroom experience required, but we advise bringing your own laptop loaded with Adobe Photoshop. Trial version available here.

In this coating and printing workshop Roberto Aguilar begins with a brief historical overview of this timeless process, complemented by examples of his exquisite work. He will then guide you through mixing the necessary chemistry and demonstrate precise paper coating techniques. You will also learn how he prepares digital negatives from the files you provide in advance.

To help you get the most out of the experience, you’ll have the opportunity to schedule a call with Roberto before the workshop to discuss your images.

No prior darkroom experience is required. The workshop fee includes the preparation of your digital negatives, as well as all necessary paper and chemicals.

By the end of the day, you can expect to create 4 - 5 stunning prints to take home.

Participants do not need to have any prior darkroom knowledge.

Intermediate Black and white printing £225

This one-day workshop is aimed at photographers looking to improve their black and white printing skills and produce exhibition quality prints.

You will have the opportunity of working with fibre-based paper and exploring more advanced darkroom techniques including:

  • Dodging and burning

  • Accurate Multicontrast Printing

  • Archival washing and drying

  • Print spotting and finishing

The workshop includes paper and chemicals, but participants will be expected to bring their own pre-processed negatives.

Those joining this workshop must have basic darkroom knowledge of printing and we advise completing our Introduction to Darkroom and Black & White Printing workshop.

Inspired by the photography of the Surrealist and Bauhaus period of the 1920s and 30s, this one-day workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about different ways of inventing images in the darkroom which cannot be seen through the camera.

At the start of the workshop, you will be shown examples of photograms and other experimental methods of printing images in black and white.

You will be introduced to a range of techniques including:

  • The use of textures to create dreamlike images

  • Combining positive and negative images

  • Superimposing multiple negatives

  • The use of masks and collage

During this workshop, there will the opportunity to explore some of these techniques, or other ideas you may wish to develop, using your own negatives and objects.

This workshop is ideal for all ages and abilities. You do not need to be a photographer, but must have some previous darkroom experience.
