Inspired by the photography of the Surrealist and Bauhaus period of the 1920s and 30s, this one-day workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about different ways of inventing images in the darkroom which cannot be seen through the camera.

At the start of the workshop, you will be shown examples of photograms and other experimental methods of printing images in black and white.

You will be introduced to a range of techniques including:

  • The use of textures to create dreamlike images

  • Combining positive and negative images

  • Superimposing multiple negatives

  • The use of masks and collage

During this workshop, there will the opportunity to explore some of these techniques, or other ideas you may wish to develop, using your own negatives and objects.

This workshop is ideal for all ages and abilities. You do not need to be a photographer, but must have some previous darkroom experience.

The possibilities are infinite…
